Waterfront Activity Specialist (Boating)

The Waterfront Activity Specialist is responsible for coordinating and leading a variety of waterfront programs and activities at Camp Naticook. Duties include designing age-appropriate water-based lessons, leading supervised boating and waterfront experiences, teaching water safety, and supporting general camp operations for campers ages 5–14.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the Camp & After School Program Coordinator.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
• Develop, plan, and lead daily waterfront activities such as boating instruction, paddle sports, basic swimming skills reinforcement, water-safety lessons, and guided waterfront adventures.
• Lead theme-based or skill-building activities such as nature-focused paddles, team-building water challenges, shoreline exploration, or waterfront games.
• Conduct daily safety inspections of boats, paddles, PFDs, rescue equipment, and designated waterfront areas.
• Teach campers proper use of waterfront equipment, safe movement on and around watercraft, basic rescue concepts, and age-appropriate water-skills development.
• Supervise campers during waterfront rotations and assist with general camp operations as needed.
• Assist with pre-season and end-of-season equipment inventory, organization, and storage; report damaged equipment and assist with minor repairs.
• Monitor weather and water conditions and make appropriate safety-based adjustments to daily programming.
• Assist with supply ordering and preparation of the waterfront program area.
• Provide feedback and recommendations to enhance future waterfront programming.
• Other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments/Information:
Position is full time (40 hours per week) seasonal and works Mondays - Fridays with no nights or weekends. Position open until filled , review of applications begins immediately.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: • Must be at least 18 years of age. • Current CPR and First Aid certifications preferred or willingness to obtain. • One or more of the following certifications (or equivalent training) preferred: – American Canoe Association Instructor Certification – American Red Cross Canoe/Kayak/Paddlecraft Instructor – American Red Cross Lifeguard or Waterfront Skills Module – American Red Cross Sailing Instructor – American Sailing Association / US Sailing Instructor Credentials – American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
Suggested Experience:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: • Demonstrated training and experience in safely operating small watercraft such as canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, or similar vessels. • Ability to teach water-based skills to children ages 5–14 in both small and large group settings. • Understanding of youth development principles and positive behavior-management strategies. • Ability to work cooperatively with counselors and specialists during daily camp rotations. • Strong situational awareness and risk-management skills in outdoor and aquatic environments. • Ability to remain patient, enthusiastic, and encouraging in a busy camp setting. • Good character, integrity, and adaptability; able to model safe and responsible waterfront behavior.
