ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
o Make sure all equipment required by the health department is on deck in proper working condition
o Attendance & participation at Staff Orientation (Conduct a staff training session, review pool rules & emergency procedures)
o Develop a system for assessing and recording the swimming ability of each camper prior to the child participating in swim activities.
o Develop and teach buddy system
o Skills test all lifeguards within one week of the first day of camp. New lifeguards must be skill tested before they can guard camp.
o Oversee the implementation of the written safety plan’s swimming procedures
o Supervise all staff and campers participating in swimming activities
o Responsible for the safety of camper groups on a daily basis at the pool and during boating activities
o Establish a positive rapport with camper groups and fellow staff members
o Ensure proper implementation of buddy system by lifeguard and camp staff.
o Respond to pool and waterfront emergencies
o Make sure that aquatics walkie-talkies are in perfect working condition on a daily basis
o Completion of written materials as requested, such as:
▪ Testing and logging of chemicals on a daily basis
▪ Testing and logging swim levels of all campers
▪ Tracking and writing up weekly camper report cards
▪ Submit routine repairs in writing to the Camp Ranger
▪ Inventory of supplies & equipment
▪ Write a final evaluation of the Swim program including rules, procedures, suggestions, etc.
o Implement boating safety and basic instruction
o Assist with the development & implementation of special events
o Develop & implement weekly plans for assigned electives

Additional Comments/Information:

HOURS Season approximately June 2-August 17, Sunday 12PM to Friday 12PM for adult sessions and 12PM to Saturday 12PM for child sessions, dependent on final departure of campers and other duties. Daily breaks will be scheduled and provided as programming allows.

Requirements:

o At least 21 years of age o Minimum of (i) one season of previous experience as a camp Aquatics Director at a New York State children's camp; or (ii) two seasons of previous experience consisting cumulatively of at least 12 weeks as a children's camp lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time; or (iii) at least 18 weeks of previous experience as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time Certification o Current certification as: ▪ Lifeguard/ CPR for Professional Rescuer ▪ Water Safety Instructor (WSI) ▪ Boating Safety Preferred o Successfully completed or ability to complete a training course in lifeguard supervision and management

Suggested Experience:

Education/Experience: o At least 21 years of age o Minimum of (i) one season of previous experience as a camp Aquatics Director at a New York State children's camp; or (ii) two seasons of previous experience consisting cumulatively of at least 12 weeks as a children's camp lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time; or (iii) at least 18 weeks of previous experience as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time o Ability to affirm positive relationships with campers, colleagues, & supervisor
