Website Camp Kawanhee

Founded in 1920 and located on the shores of Webb Lake in Weld, Maine, Camp Kawanhee for Boys is among the oldest continuously operating residential summer camps for boys in the United States. The camp seeks an energetic, mission-aligned leader who will ensure that the impact the camp has on the lives of its campers, staff, and families remains deep and sustainable. The successful candidate will inherit an organization with an outstanding physical plant, sound balance sheet, stable enrollment and a dedicated staff. Having recently completed a successful capital campaign to celebrate the camp’s centennial, Kawanhee’s alumni and families are strong advocates for the camp and its mission, and the board of directors is focused on ensuring that there “may always be a Kawanhee.”

Additional Comments/Information:

Most of the activities at Kawanhee are conducted outdoors in nature, and access to technology is extremely limited, and intentionally so. The camp is loved and celebrated for success at seeing each person and providing the ‘freedom within a framework’ that helps boys grow throughout the life cycle of involvement with the camp including as counselors, alumni, parents and family members to campers, and volunteers. Building on a firm foundation, the next executive director will evolve the camp’s organizational structure and professionalize its general business functions to create administrative efficiencies and to continue delivering on its promise to families. While it enjoys a strong following among its community, drawing campers from across the country and around the world, there is an opportunity for the camp to build its brand and communicate its value proposition in a more strategic fashion to both its current constituents and a wider audience.
