A message from ACA, New England’s Board President, Ian Moorhouse
November 20, 2024
Dear Members,
We hope you are well-rested after a busy but incredible camp season and your journey towards summer 2025 is off to a smooth start. From Camp Tours to Resource Communities all the way through another sold-out Fall Seminar, ACA, New England has been busy, and as work ramps up for the annual New England Camp Conference, I’m motivated by the staff, volunteers, and participation from members and guests within the camp community.
New England’s Board of Directors is of a group of dedicated professionals volunteering their time to set the strategy and direction of this incredible organization. Many of us give back, because we know we’ve grown as professionals, thanks in some part to the unwavering support and dedication ACA, New England has for the industry and its people.
Last year, the Board and staff had five working groups focused on key areas of the organization including program development, a five-year financial plan, and volunteer management. These collaborative groups and their thoughtful guidance helped steer the work of the staff, committees, and volunteers. For more about the impact your support and work had on the New England camp community, I encourage you all to read this year’s ACA, New England Impact Report including highlights about:
- Government relations and advocacy
- Awards and recognitions throughout New England
- Financial assistance awarded
This fall, our Board and staff participated in a retreat to review the summer, set collective goals, and share our respective visions for the months and years ahead. Topics discussed included:
- Program & Innovation – The Board has established a new committee that will focus on the strategic thinking and planning for programs and professional development that is provided to our membership.
- Bylaws & Strategic Plan – As we come to the end of our latest strategic plan, this is a great opportunity to review the work that has been successfully completed, identify areas needing continued focus, and determine next steps as we establish new priorities and goals.
- Volunteer Engagement – There is a lot of excitement around the hiring of our accreditation and volunteer coordinator. In addition to supporting the accreditation program in New England, this new role will focus on the recruiting and retention of volunteers. As we know, ACA New England is successful thanks to the dedication of our volunteers.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and ACA, New England staff, we are focused on the needs of you all and your camps. If you are inspired to get more involved as a volunteer, board member, donor or all the above, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Because we need you.
Warm regards,
Ian
