Head Ropes Course Instructor - Camp Matoaka


Job Description

Camp Matoaka is a summer camp for girls nestled in rustic Maine. Matoaka has a state of the art ropes facility constructed by Project Adventure that features a 350’ zipline, a 30’ pamper pole, and a 50’ two-sided climbing tower. The Head of Ropes Course is responsible for overseeing all Ropes Course operations and leading a team of instructors.

Type of Position: Specialized Activity Leader

Time Frame: Seasonal

Salary: Competitive salary based on experience.


- Project Adventure certification or equivalent ropes course certification required
- Proficient in belay and knot tying
- CPR & First Aid certification preferred (can be trained at camp if necessary)
- 3-5 years of outdoor exploration experience preferred
- Experience working with youth and leading a team


- Manage a team of 9 instructors to coach campers of all ages and skill levels
- Coordinate daily staff schedule and manage performance of instructors
- Lead team-building activities, and exercises related to self-exploration, problem solving, and risk-taking
- Collaborate with leadership to plan engaging programs for campers
- Organize climbing competitions
- Adhere to all safety regulations and maintenance of ropes course

Additional Information

This position can be used to earn internship college credit and/or fulfill required field experience hours.
