Job Description

The American Baptist Churches of Rhode Island is searching for a Director of Camping Ministries to give leadership as we continue to provide excellent overnight and day camping options for children and youth in Southern New England. This is a part-time, salaried position where the hours are shaped seasonally by the camping schedule. There is housing available for the director on the campus of Canonicus Camp and Conference Center, and the director is expected to live onsite during the camping season. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work effectively with youth and children, as well as the ability to recruit, train, and supervise staff. The position requires significant logistical, interpersonal, and team-building skills. Interested parties should contact Rev. Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Personal commitment to Christ, exemplified in attitude and lifestyle
  • Commitment to the ministries and philosophies of ABCORI
  • Willingness to work cooperatively as part of a team in a Christian environment
  • 5 to 10 Year’s experience in Camping or Youth/College Ministry preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred
  • Experience in supervising employees, recruiting and directing volunteers, and handling contract service workers
  • Ability to handle emergencies, issues and concerns in a professional manner
  • Must be a self-starter who knows how to organize from start to finish

Must live on-site during the summer camping season for 24/6 availability. Throughout the remainder of the year the hours are flexible and on-site residence is optional

Additional Information

General Responsibilities: • Develop camping programs (overnight and day camp) • Ensure compliance with American Camping Association standards • Oversee entire summer camp program within budgetary guidelines • Hire, train, evaluate and supervise summer staff and volunteers • Develop promotional material and plan for distribution • Market the summer program, including but not limited to church visits and Camp Open House • Attend regional staff meetings • Serve as staff liaison to regional teams and committees as assigned
