Adventure Camp Counselor (summer camp) Nature's Classroom – Hancock, NH


  • To effectively and safely teach adventure education skills and supervise a group of campers during on campus activity blocks and free time 
  • Able to effectively and safely teach and supervise multi-day on-site camp outs 
  • To provide a safe, positive and supportive environment for campers to challenge themselves 
  • To supervise a cabin of campers 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
1. Provide direct leadership for 6 -12 campers throughout each camp session.
Areas of responsibility include:
  • Instruction and facilitation (or assist with) of adventure and outdoor activity classes on campus
  • Supervise campers and create a positive community environment

2. Oversee the health and safety of campers.
Areas of responsibility include:
  • Utilize approved safety practices in all activities and non-program supervision time
  • Provide appropriate First Aid and submit written reports to Health Supervisor
  • Create and supervise emotionally healthy environment for campers

3. Responsible for cabin and free time supervision as well as all camp life activities

4. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions

5. Live with and supervise campers in the cabins

6. Participate in goal setting and evaluation in relation to self, peers and program

7. Complete designated paperwork, reports, etc.

8. Instruct and facilitate trip preparation and wrap-up activities and other group programming

9. Supervise all aspects of onsite campouts including but not limited to, equipment usage, program, risk management, and camper behavior

10. Understand and be able to implement emergency procedures during a campout

11. Use and maintain Sargent Center equipment appropriately

12. Work with and/or supervise other staff members

13. Follow Adventure Camp Campout Procedures

14. Assist with cleanliness of the cabins, buildings, and site of Sargent Center

15. Rotate through camp support duties and community jobs including general cleaning, dishes, and program support

16. Other duties as assigned

1. Minimum of 19 years old.
2. Current Wilderness First Aid and CPR certifications.
3. Valid Driver’s License
4. Highly motivated to teach, learn and practice adventure education skills
5. Experience and/or desire to work with children in an outdoor setting.
6. Great problem solver

9. Positive Attitude
10. Ability to work long hours in a high stress environment
