Our Leaders-in-Training (LIT) Program Coordinator position will provide you with the tools and training to lead nature camp programming, provide effective youth management, and teach in an outdoor setting. NH Audubon believes in an inquiry-based, student-led approach to our teaching methods which is aimed at promoting curiosity of the natural world.

The LIT Program Coordinators will support the mission of New Hampshire Audubon, to protect New Hampshire’s natural environment for wildlife and for people, by assisting with the operation and program coordination of our established environmental day camps. Primary duties include planning and conducting weekly lessons and activities for LIT campers on environmental education and team building, assisting with coordination of daily nature-based activities and weekly all-camp games, and supervising campers during extended care programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Attend all training sessions prior to the camp season.
  • Assist with planning and leading staff training.
  • Coordinate implementation of the LIT program.
  • Develop, facilitate, and monitor LIT program participants and activities.
  • Supervise afternoon extended care (“after care”).
  • Provide First Aid to campers as needed.
  • Recommend purchases and maintain camp supplies and equipment.
  • Assist instructors with lesson development.
  • Act as a liaison and maintain good relationships with parents of LIT program participants.
  • Lead camper groups during Camp Educator absences.
  • Create and sustain a respectful camp culture with a zero tolerance for bullying.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments/Information:

  • Minimum Age Required: 18
  • HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm, 30-minute unpaid lunch, seasonal full-time, non-exempt (hourly paid). Hours may vary depending on camp needs.
  • SCHEDULE: June 1st - August 28th, 2026 (up to 13 weeks total: two weeks of onboarding, two weeks of all-staff training, eight weeks of active camp sessions, and one week of wrap-up & debrief duties).
  • Expected days off: weekends, Juneteenth (June 19th, 2026), Independence Day (July 3rd, 2026)

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in elementary education, environmental education, outdoor education, biology, natural history, or related field preferred.
  • Skills, Traits and Characteristics Necessary for Success: Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm are necessary. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a criminal background check. Must be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 and can provide COVID vaccination card at orientation. Camp uniform required (provided).
  • Physical Demands: To perform the essential functions of the position, the following applies: excellent physical condition with capability to moderately hike, run and climb, tolerance for variable weather conditions, ability to work in an outdoor setting, and able to lift up to 25 lbs. Camp uniform required (will be provided).

Suggested Experience:

Must have experience working in a camp setting and teaching children in grades K-9 with a preference for grades 7th-9th; demonstrated ability to develop creative environmental education activities. Ability to make both independent and collaborative decisions required. Must have American Red Cross or American Heart Association Standard First Aid certification, CPR certification or equivalent, Medication Management for Unlicensed Persons course, or willingness to obtain certifications.
