The Camp Staff is a team of individuals who work together to share their faith, talents, skills, experience and enthusiasm with the campers and volunteers at Horton Center.
The Horton Center Chef reports to the Executive Director of Horton Center.
The specific duties of the Chef include:
1. Participating in staff training.
2. Planning the meals and ordering food for staff training.
3. Training staff in food preparation and storage practices
4. Training staff in proper cleaning practices for the kitchen
5. Supervising dishwashing program.
6. Planning healthy, age-appropriate menus, ordering food, and helping to receive and store food and other supplies.
7. Keeping records of weekly expenditures to maintain the kitchen budget and sharing these records with the Executive Director
8. Cooking, trimming, carving, baking, as well as portioning meats, vegetables, salads, breads, desserts, etc.
9. Recording quantities, types and preparation methods of foods served.
10. Ensuring that the kitchen is kept clean and sanitary, and that state, federal, and ACA regulations are enforced.
11. Participating as fully in the life of the camp as is possible, given the primary responsibility in food service.
12. Sharing staff evaluation notes regarding their work in the kitchen with the Executive Director on a bi-weekly basis or as needed
13. Attend staff meetings throughout the summer
14. Preparing meals for volunteer training evenings.
15. Preparing meals for groups that are traveling off-site.
16. Washing kitchen laundry in a timely manner.
17. Working to minimize food waste as much as possible
18. Assisting in packing all materials and supplies at the end of season.
19. Evaluating the current season and making suggestions for the following season.
These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.

Horton Center is the Outdoor Ministries site of the NH Conference of the United Church of Christ. Located on top of Pine Mountain in the White Mountain National Forest, our site offers opportunities for many amazing activities such as rock climbing, caving, archery, arts and crafts, low ropes course, and off-site swimming and canoeing. We run 7 weeks of youth and intergenerational camping beginning at the end of June and wrapping up in mid-August. The mission of Horton Center is to welcome all God’s people and provide life changing outdoor encounters with God and Christian community to grow passionate “Servant Leaders” who are stewards of all God’s creation. Requirements:
Age 18 or older First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain such Must submit health history records prior to first day of work Satisfactory background and reference checks ServSafe Certified (or willing to take online course to get certified)
