Join our Medical team at Camp Hoffman. On the medical team you will work to ensure the health and safety of every person in camp.
Schedule: June 23rd to August 20th (Sunday-Friday) (Off July 4th)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide healthcare as necessary for all people within the camp. Under the supervision of the Camp Director and under the guidance of a licensed physician in accordance with federal, state, local, GSUSA, GSSNE, and ACA regulations and standards.
Assist in ensuring every camper and staff member has a medical record on file.
Assess all injuries and/or emergencies and treat as described in the standing orders.
Provide, administer, log, store and return all medications to campers and as needed to staff
Maintain constant and professional communication with caregivers regarding the healthcare and services provided to campers in a timely fashion.
Log all medical care, medication distribution, and caregiver communications.
Assist in advising staff on camp wide health procedures & practices and as needed provide health/first aid advice according to procedures.
Assist in verifying first aid and medical reports. Follow up on treatment given. Monitor staff first aid treatment throughout the season.
Participate in all of and assist in leading specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, CPR, first aid, and use of universal precautions for infection control
Assist in the cleanliness, organization, care, maintenance, and inventory of the healthcare center & medication storage.
Coordinate coverage of healthcare area with Camp Director
Assist in completion and organization of health-related paperwork such as accident/incident reports that can be used for risk management purposes, insurance claim forms, health department records, and health forms within 2 business days.
Assist in the screening of health forms prior to or within 12 hours of arriving campers and staff. Notify appropriate camp staff of any health concerns or needs.
Follow appropriate medical routines as outlined in the Manual including recordkeeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
Fill, issue, check, and maintain all first aid kits
Notify Camp Director of any safety or health concerns, especially those requiring consultation with physicians or families.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be 21 years or older
Current state license ability to practice health care in Rhode Island.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have the visual, auditory, and physical ability to quickly identify and appropriately respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities and emergencies at camp, as well as generally uphold all safety standards.
Previous experience with health-related paperwork such as accident/incident reports, insurance claim forms, health department records, and health forms preferred.
Previous experience in Girl Scouts, camps, school nursing, public health, childcare, and/ or education is desired but not required.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to walk/hike 3+ miles per day to include rough and uneven terrain
Ability to respond quickly and calmly in an emergency situation
Ability to live in a rustic environment
Live and work in an outdoor environment with exposure to heat, humidity, sun, rain, uneven terrain and other elements.
