Join our team at Camp Hoffman as Lifeguard and help create unforgettable experiences for campers in an immersive and fun-filled environment. As a Lifeguard, you will educate campers in boating and water safety. Supervise open swim sessions and boating with other lifeguards and act calmly and efficiently in emergencies.

Schedule:  

Day Staff Lifeguard: June 23rd to August 20st (Monday-Friday) (Off July 4th)

Overnight Staff Lifeguard: June 23rd to August 20th (Sunday-Friday) (Off July 4th)

Day staff will have one hour of time off each day. Overnight Staff will have two hours of scheduled time off daily, one evening per week off with a set curfew, and be off from Friday evening to Sunday Morning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Participate in the daily implementation of the aquatics program. Working cooperatively with the Waterfront Director to enrich all-camp and aquatic programs including swimming, boating, and rainy-day activities to facilitate general camp operations.
Facilitate and engage in a variety of waterfront activities (swimming, canoeing, kayaking, water games, etc.) while actively guarding the safety of all participants.
Prepare and conduct proper water safety instruction for all swimming, boating, and other waterfront activities, and enforce safety protocol at all times.
Assists the Waterfront Director in assessing swimming skills of all campers for classification, ensuring that every participant has been through a swim assessment.
Participates in all emergency drills including, but not limited to, aquatics emergencies.
Work in a team with other lifeguards and camp staff around camp.
Follow a schedule with promptness and flexibility when unexpected changes occur.
Assist in the opening and closing of camp as directed.
Perform daily set up, maintenance, and clean-up of waterfront as directed.
Responsibility for the health and safety of the campers, reporting concerns promptly.
Keeps records, reports, and inventories as required.
Adhere to and enforce Girl Scout, State of Rhode Island, and American Camp Association standards and policies.
Assist in all assigned aspects of an overnight and/or day camper’s day including activities, mealtimes, rest hours, bedtime and after-hour duties as assigned.
Participate in all aspects of camp life including staff training, meetings, in-services, daily activities, all camp activities, skits/songs, kapers (chores), cookouts, etc. as assigned.
Live in a unit near campers or in a cabin with campers as assigned. (Overnight staff).
Day Lifeguards have the option to work as a bus monitor or overnight on Thursdays.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 

Must be 16 years or older by June 23rd, 2025.
Current Red Cross lifeguard certification or ability to obtain prior to June 23rd, 2025.
Current RIDEM Non-surf or Surf Lifeguard Certification or ability to obtain.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have the visual, auditory, and physical ability to quickly identify and appropriately respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities and emergencies at camp, as well as generally uphold all safety standards.
Previous experience in Girl Scouts, camps, boating, and/ or lifeguarding is a plus, but not required.
Day Staff: Reliable transportation to get to and from their assigned bus stop or camp each day.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements: 

Ability to walk, run, stand, crouch, swim, and sit for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for water and small craft rescues.
Ability to physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard and swim with endurance and proficiency at a level necessary to perform assigned duties.
Ability to work outside for long periods of time with exposure to weather including heat and sun.
Ability to walk on rough and uneven terrain.
Ability to live in a rustic environment (overnight staff)
Live and work in an outdoor rustic environment with exposure to heat, humidity, sun, rain, uneven terrain and other elements.

Position Dependent: Trainings or certification in First Aid/CPR, Boating/Watercraft, Team Building, Low/High Ropes, outdoor skills, Rock Wall and more available!
