Summer is calling! Are you ready to spend your summer leading a group of campers on a journey filled with amazing learning experiences, laughter, and lifelong memories? If you are up for the challenge, we want you to join our team as a Lead Pool Counselor! GSEMA has an opening for Lead Pool Counselor at our day camp, Camp Cedar Hill, located in Waltham, MA.

We are looking for individuals who are energetic and have a passion for working with youth. Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) offers invaluable skill-building, leadership, training, and enrichment opportunities that can’t be found anywhere else. This position requires that you are at least 21 years of age (as of June 15, 2025) and have experience supervising others.

Did you know?!  If you do not have current Red Cross Lifeguard Training but you have a willingness to become certified, we offer training – FOR FREE!

Hours and Work Environment

Camp Dates are June 28 – August 16, 2025. Camp runs Monday – Friday and staff will have 40-hour work weeks. The camp season includes 1 week of training.

Pay Rate:

$18 per hour

A LEAD POOL COUNSELOR will:

  • Oversee the pool program, ensuring waterfront safety for all camp participants, including staff.
  • Coordinate the pool schedule with other camp activities and lead skill development and free swim sessions.
  • Supervise lifeguards.
  • Assist with the care and maintenance of pool equipment including monitoring water quality as directed by the camp director or site manager.
  • Collaborate with staff to plan and adapt age-appropriate activities aligned with Girl Scout program goals; Prepare alternative activities for inclement weather to ensure program continuity.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and evaluations.
  • Foster a positive, nurturing, and inclusive camp environment focused on camper safety, growth, and development.
  • Promote an inclusive camp culture where all campers feel welcome and supported.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, care, and safety of camp facilities and equipment, reporting any issues.
  • Supervise and attend to campers’ safety, behavior, and well-being.
  • Act as a positive role model for both campers and staff.
  • Administer first aid or seek emergency assistance when necessary.
  • Communicate promptly with leadership regarding camper, staff, or family concerns and assist with resolutions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to campers and families.
  • Participate in all required trainings and certifications.
  • Comply with Girl Scout health and safety standards, ACA accreditation, and legal regulations.
  • Assist with camp opening, closing, and other duties as assigned.

Camp Cedar Hill in Waltham Camp Cedar Hill offers campers entering kindergarten through 12th grade the life-changing experience of summer camp. A hop, skip, and a jump from Boston, on 75 acres of natural beauty, at Camp Cedar Hill, camper activities include archery, swimming in two pools, boating on the pond, high and low ropes challenge courses, and the alpine climbing tower—not to mention favorite camp activities like singalongs, and crafts.to mention favorite camp activities like singalongs and crafts.

Is this you?

  • Age 21+ by June 15, 2025
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training or equivalent OR have a willingness to become certified.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid and CPR OR have a willingness to become certified.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
  • Ability to assist in teaching an activity.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control.
  • Ability to work within the camp environment (work may be indoors or outdoors and may be hot, humid, rainy or cool weather.)
  • Ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve practical problems and successfully manage a variety of variables and personalities; ability to adapt in a changing environment.
Other Requirements This position requires successful completion of criminal background checks and an active membership with Girl Scouts.
