Additional Comments/Information:
The camp nurse is responsible for the health and well being of the entire camp community throughout the summer. There will be three resident nurses supplying the health needs of the camp. The job begins in the pre-camp orientation period and will include explanations to the staff about relevant health related material of a general and specific nature. Individual camper health issues will also be discussed. Opening day is important and involves screening campers as they arrive for any special pre-existing conditions, the collection of all medicines from the campers, and the accumulation and file of all health forms. The nurse must have the ability to communicate and work with camper and counselors, live and work in a rustic and outside environment, have the physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, and must be able to quickly reach every place on the camp property. Much of camp is reachable only by foot with many areas at least ¼ mile from the infirmary and reachable only by wooded paths with rocks, roots and up and down hills.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Licensed in State of Maine
- If not licensed in Maine, submit paperwork to state to obtain Maine license, camp will pay fees and assist with the process.
- Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work
Suggested Experience:
Experience in pediatric nursing desired
