Merrowvista offers year-round experiential education programs for school and community groups, focused on helping individuals achieve their personal best, foster positive communities, and build respect for themselves, others, and the environment through adventure-based learning. Facilitators will engage directly with youth, leading experiential programs in our Community and School Programs, while working with a diverse range of participants across age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The American Youth Foundation is dedicated to supporting the professional growth of our facilitators, providing valuable learning experiences to develop their skills as effective educators in our intentional outdoor programs. We aim to inspire facilitators to reach their full potential, explore their unique strengths, and grow as confident leaders in their careers.
Additional Comments/Information:
Position Responsibilities:
- When facilitating a program: leading experiential, environmental, and recreational group activities, leading debriefs, managing safety, and learning on ropes courses.
- When supporting a program: preparing program spaces for use, hanging climbing ropes, delivering materials to facilitators, leading, or supporting program activities. Facilitators will also aid operation teams when needed: Kitchen & Facilities.
- Non-program responsibilities: program area preparation and closure, possible independent and collaborative projects to advance AYF, staff development workshops & off-site team activities.
- Weekdays & weekends as needed
- Occasional six plus work weeks as needed: Facilitators will receive one day off for every six days worked
- Housing is provided, offering facilitators an immersive living experience by sharing a home and workplace with 6-7 fellow facilitators from Staff Training through the end of the season. Facilitators will live onsite during training and throughout the program, including weekends and evenings.
- All meals (when in program) are provided. Dietary accommodation will be provided when needed.
Requirements:
- Be 21 and have one year of higher education or equivalent experience Able to lead a two-mile hike in the mountains and lift over 25 pounds
- First Aid and CPR-certified
- Support the organization’s mission and vision with integrity, dependability, and accountability.
- Fully participate in and be present at all community activities, including staff training activities.
- Follow all guidelines and policies as described in the AYF (American Youth Foundation) staff manual.
- Ability to handle stressful situations appropriately, maintaining mental, emotional, and social resiliency needed for the job in a fast-paced, interactive environment
Suggested Experience:
- Have a driver's license and clean driving record
- Lifeguard & (WFR/WFA) Certification
