DESCRIPTION:Instructor:  Mike Barker – Adventure Mas \nThis course meets the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for Ropes Facilitator Training. For more information please read this article. \nAll training also refers to American Camp Association (ACA) Accreditation Standards\, Association for Challenge Course Technology Standards (ACCT)\, Professional Ropes Course Association (PRCA) and Maine State Licensing Regulations. \nMike and his team at Adventure Mas are also available for building and inspections. \nLow Ropes Facilitator \nPurpose: Focus is on facilitation techniques for both element/initiative and non-element/initiative challenges as well as safety skills. \nDates: June 10th starting at 9am – June 12th finishing at 5pm \nCost: $335 \nCertification: Low Ropes Course Facilitator (2 years) \nHigh Ropes Facilitator \nPurpose: Learn facilitating techniques for various high elements including equipment\, belay skills\, safety and rescue techniques. DESCRIPTION:The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid\, breathing\, and cardiac emergencies involving adults\, children and infants. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile\, desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the Instructor-led skills session. DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Lucy Morris\,  New England School of Archery and Supplies \nPurpose: \n\nTo improve the safety and quality of archery instruction to individuals and small groups in a camp setting\nTo review archery techniques\nTo give instructors confidence in teaching\nTo learn to motivate and vary daily program\nTo care for equipment and make repairs\nTo comply with ACA Accreditation Standards and state licensing regulations.\n\nDates: \n\nArchery Course 1:  Thursday June 16th starting at 8:30am – ending by 7:00pm (or when testing is complete)\nArchery Course 2: Friday June 17th starting at 8:30am – ending by 7:00pm (or when testing is complete)\n\nCost: $220 \nPrerequisites: The minimum age for the Level I course is 15. However\, when conducting an archery class\, those under the age of 18 are required to have an adult (18+) supervision. \nCertification: National Archery Association – Level I. Valid for three years from date of issue. \nNote:  Full attendance and participation is required. Mandatory online coursework must be completed 2 days prior to attending the in person training.  Plan for anywhere from 3-8 hours to complete the pre-course work (time varies based on prior experience or familiarity with material).  We plan to release access to the online training 2-3 weeks prior to the in person training.

SUMMARY:Outdoor Living Skills Staff Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Camp staff who are teaching Outdoor Living Skills and Campcraft are encouraged to attend. Join us as we intertwine curriculum review of the skills and skill levels as introduced in the Art of Outdoor Living book published by The Maine Summer Camps (MSC) member organization.  Staff teaching curriculum for Junior Maine Woodsman\, Maine Woodsman and Junior Maine Guide will find this particularly helpful. \nWe will provide time for instruction and practice of skills to build instructor confidence and will cover teaching methods and some nature/natural history. Safety and proper care and use of equipment while used in the outdoors will be emphasized. For more details on skills covered and goals\, Click to view the WYO – 3 day OLS Clinic curriculum. \n \nThere will be one outdoor overnight campsite experience on the Wyonegonic property including outdoor cooking and encampment. Participants should bring their personal gear and their copy of The Art of Outdoor Living (books will be available for purchase at cost of $34). Food and group campsite materials including tents are provided. Canoeing and first aid skills are not included in this training. \nInstructors: Ginny Geyer and Katie Curtis. Both are Junior Maine Guide testers\, experienced instructors and Katie is a Registered Maine Guide. \nDates: Friday June 17 9:00am – Sunday June 19 4:30pm \nCost: $130.  (Books can be purchased for $34 for participants who do not have their own copy.) \nCertification: This is not a certification course.  At the end of the workshop\, participants will be provided with a checklist of skills covered and written feedback from the instructors that can be provided to Camp Directors.  This is an example of documentation that can be added to a participants documented experience and staff skills verification for specialized activities (ACA standards ST.8 and ST.33).
