SUMMARY:Youth Mental Health First Aid - Blended Learning
DESCRIPTION:Youth Mental Health First Aid\nCollaborative for Educational Services (CES) offers free Youth Mental Health First Aid – Blended Learning opportunities throughout the year. \nYouth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents\, family members\, caregivers\, teachers\, school staff\, peers\, neighbors\, health and human services workers\, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth\, reviews typical adolescent development\, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety\, depression\, substance use\, disorders in which psychosis may occur\, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD)\, and eating disorders. \nCES has invited ACA\, New England to share these classes with our members. Participants will complete 2 hours of self-paced online work in advance of the class\, followed by a 6.5 hour group online class that will be held live online. \nThere are courses planned on the following dates with the live\, online class being from 9:00 am – 3:15 pm: \n\nSeptember 26\n\nFor more information and to sign up\, visit here. \nPre-registration is required at least a week in advance to ensure you have time to complete the required pre-work before the live session. \nParticipants will need to be present for the full live\, online course with cameras and microphones on to receive credit for the training.

SUMMARY:Resource Community Series: Operationalizing DEI at Your Camp
DESCRIPTION:Has your camp been talking about or been doing preliminary work around belonging\, diversity\, inclusion (and similar concepts that may go by a variety of terms)?\nAre you ready to take this work to the next level? If so\, join ACA\, New England and OAAARS for a year-long exploration into how to more deeply operationalize DEIB at your camp. This Resource Community will be a cohort model with monthly meetings from October to May. \nSimone Gamble and their colleagues from OAAARS will ask you to identify a specific project to work on and using accountable structure and intersectional lens\, they will guide you through a year of reflection and action. \nThis series is designed to be an interactive\, live\, discussion-based opportunity for you to grow your camp’s skills in this area while being guided by strong facilitators. This is a 201\, intermediate-level offering.  \nThe series will consist of two in-person sessions\, 6 Zoom sessions\, one informal in-person meet-up at the New England Camp Conference\, and a presentation opportunity during an e-session hosted by ACANE in early May. Their course\, 6 Steps to Build a Better Business – and 5 Ways to Grow it\, explores key areas for business growth: Mastery\, Marketing\, Systems\, Team\, Synergy\, and Freedom. \nWe’ll spend our time together digging into one of these areas – sales and marketing. Participants must attend all learning sessions over the timeframe to successfully become an accreditation volunteer. This course requires active participation and engagement. \nACA’s accreditation program is the only national peer review program of its kind for the camp industry. Being an ACA accreditation volunteer (visitor) provides you with the experience to build your network\, polish your skills in observation and risk management\, and develop mentoring opportunities for both you and the camps you work with. In this two-part series\, Donna Johns-Thomas\, SHRM-CP\, founder of Indigo Consulting\, explores how to make every interview count. \nPart One helps camp leaders turn returning-staff conversations into opportunities for leadership building\, skill development\, and shared ownership of camp culture. \nPart Two focuses on interviewing new staff — asking better questions\, reducing bias\, and using what you learn to shape stronger\, more intentional pre-camp training. \nWhether you’re hiring your 100th counselor or your first\, these sessions will help you turn interviews into meaningful conversations that strengthen your team and your summer. \nWinterviews That Matter: Turning Returning Staff Check-Ins into Real Leadership Conversations\nEvery camp has them – those quick\, casual “returner interviews” that happen over coffee\, a phone call\, or in between school and finals week.
