SUMMARY:Youth Mental Health First Aid - Blended Learning
DESCRIPTION:Youth Mental Health First Aid\nCollaborative for Educational Services (CES) offers free Youth Mental Health First Aid – Blended Learning opportunities throughout the year. \nYouth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents\, family members\, caregivers\, teachers\, school staff\, peers\, neighbors\, health and human services workers\, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth\, reviews typical adolescent development\, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety\, depression\, substance use\, disorders in which psychosis may occur\, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD)\, and eating disorders. \nCES has invited ACA\, New England to share these classes with our members. Participants will complete 2 hours of self-paced online work in advance of the class\, followed by a 6.5 hour group online class that will be held live online. \nThere are courses planned on the following dates with the live\, online class being from 9:00 am – 3:15 pm: \n\nSeptember 26\n\nFor more information and to sign up\, visit here. \nPre-registration is required at least a week in advance to ensure you have time to complete the required pre-work before the live session. \nParticipants will need to be present for the full live\, online course with cameras and microphones on to receive credit for the training.

SUMMARY:SOLO Wilderness First Aid (THREE OFFERINGS)
DESCRIPTION:Do you like to spend time outdoors? Accidents happen; if you or someone in your group got hurt\, would you know what to do? People get hurt\, sick\, or lost.  Many back country emergencies are preventable and even when bad things happen\, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. \nWilderness First Aid is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants more than basic level of first aid training for short trips with family\, friends\, and outdoor groups. The 16 hour long (two-day) program focuses on the skills of: Response and Assessment\, Musculoskeletal Injuries\, Environmental Emergencies\, Survival Skills\, Soft Tissue Injuries\, and Medical Emergencies. \nThose who complete the course and pass the written and practical skills will receive a Wilderness First Aid certification from SOLO which is valid for 2 years. \nOptional CPR Training \nAn optional  Adult CPR Certification Course will be offered on Saturday evening for an additional fee of $50.00 for those who would like to get certified.  While certification is recommended; it is not required. \nCertification Received:  Participants successfully completing the course will receive \nThis 2-day course is being offered three times: 4/6-7\, 4/27-28\, 5/25-26

DESCRIPTION:CANOE\n\n \nWe offer canoe instructor training through the American Canoe Association: Level 1 Introduction to Canoeing Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW\, ICE). Participants can choose to include a one day Introduction to Canoeing to help review paddle strokes before the intensive Instructor Workshop. This is strongly encouraged by the instructor. \nPlease note that all courses are physically demanding and occur in a fresh water lake. The temperatures in June can be extremely cold. We strongly recommend that you bring a wetsuit. Lifeguard Certification is highly recommended for anyone teaching children on the water. DESCRIPTION:Camp staff who are teaching Outdoor Living Skills and Campcraft are encouraged to attend. Join us as we intertwine curriculum review of the skills and skill levels as introduced in the Art of Outdoor Living book published by The Maine Summer Camps (MSC) member organization.  Staff teaching curriculum for Junior Maine Woodsman\, Maine Woodsman and Junior Maine Guide will find this particularly helpful. \nWe will provide time for instruction and practice of skills to build instructor confidence and will cover teaching methods and some nature/natural history. Safety and proper care and use of equipment while used in the outdoors will be emphasized. For more details on skills covered and goals\, Click to view the WYO – 3 day OLS Clinic curriculum. \n \nThere will be one outdoor overnight campsite experience on the Wyonegonic property including outdoor cooking and encampment. Participants should bring their personal gear and their copy of The Art of Outdoor Living (books will be available for purchase at cost of $34). SUMMARY:Wilderness First Aid
DESCRIPTION:Do you like to spend time outdoors? Accidents happen; if you or someone in your group got hurt\, would you know what to do? People get hurt\, sick\, or lost. Many back country emergencies are preventable and even when bad things happen\, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. \nWilderness First Aid is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants more than basic level of first aid training for short trips with family\, friends\, and outdoor groups. The 16 hour long (two-day) program focuses on the skills of: Response and Assessment\, Musculoskeletal Injuries\, Environmental Emergencies\, Survival Skills\, Soft Tissue Injuries\, and Medical Emergencies. \nThose who complete the course and pass the written and practical skills will receive a Wilderness First Aid certification from SOLO which is valid for 2 years. SOLO is among the leaders in Wilderness Medicine Training and certification. Coffee and snacks will be provided each day. This course will be held at Wasserman Park in Merrimack\, NH. \nDue to COVID 19; we are capping class sizes to no more than 16 people. Classroom space will be setup to allow for students to remain 6ft apart during didactic lessons. \nFor practical work\, students are paired with one person\, and one person only. These people will work together during practical essions/assessments and otherwise will be expected to remain separated during class. The pair will remain the same from day one through day two. We will not be teaching group scenarios and will also only discuss certain components\, such as patient lifting and moving. \nParticipants are NOT required to hold a Valid CPR Certification Card\, but if you would like to get certified in Adult CPR ; a Course will be offered on Saturday evening for an additional fee of $45.00 \nSchedule \nSaturday 5/29 – 8:00AM – 5:00PM \nSunday 5/20 – 8:00AM – 5:00PM

Since 1947\, CIEE’s mission is to help people gain understanding\, acquire knowledge\, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.  Ryan manages a team of Camp Consultants that work directly with camp representatives\, tailor matching international counselors and ensuring positive cultural exchange experiences. \nRyan is passionate about the camp experience and it’s capacity to transform lives. He spent 5 years as the Director of Environmental Education for Kieve-Wavus Education in Nobleboro\, Maine\, cultivating the next generation of environmental advocates. As an ardent environmentalist Ryan stays close to nature through recreation; surfing\, paddle boarding\, and hiking to name a few! He lives in Portland with wife Usha and dog Kona. \n  \n\n \n\nTobie has a BA in Sociology from the University of Delaware and a Masters in Social Work from UNH. She has worked in residential treatment through the Boys and Girls Clubs and for the last 15 years she has primarily worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in schools. During the summers\, she is the Head Counselor at Camp Pinecliffe\, where her day to day tasks include checking in with high needs campers\, liaising with parents\, coaching staff on how to handle camper issues\, and working with therapists as needed. \nDuring the workshop\, Tobie will be discussing common themes in camper mental health\, ways we can support our camper populations\, and strategies for campers and staff alike. There will be time for group discussion so bring topics to discuss and ideas to share!
