DESCRIPTION:While the first session of the group already happened in October\, we are able to accept additional registrants to the group prior to the November 7 in-person meeting\, if you are still interested in joining us!\nA 201\, intermediate level offering \nFor camp professionals who have been in director/leadership roles for 3-7 years and are looking to deepen and further develop their experiences\, skills\, and networks in the camping industry. If you have fewer than 3 summers of leadership experience\, but feel that this group fits your level\, reach out and let’s chat! \nBuilding community with colleagues from a variety of camps throughout New England is an important part of staying connected in our industry. As you take on increasing responsibilities in your role\, advance your skills and expertise\, and look to deepen your professional networks\, we invite you to join this cohort of like-minded colleagues. Join us for a series of monthly facilitated discussions (October to May) where you’ll have the opportunity to share ideas and resources\, get feedback\, troubleshoot challenges\, and explore opportunities in a safe and professional space. \nTopics will be flexible based on the group’s needs/interests\, but may include: \n\nYour personal mission and staying invested in camp\nGrowing your camp\nCounselor hiring and retention\nSetting your camp culture\nBuilding a team you trust with the expertise you need\nIndustry trends\n\nMark Lipof\, Director/Co-Owner of Camp Micah with over 40 years of camping experience\, will facilitate the sessions. His role will be to encourage participant-led discussions\, provide resources\, offer observations and insights\, all while keeping the conversation and session flow going! \n(Both day and resident camp directors are welcome! Registration may be transferred to another individual from your camp/organization before the series begins. \n\nAbout the Moderator: \nMark Lipof\, LICSW \nWith over 40 years of camping experience as a camper\, counselor\, head counselor and camp administrator\, Mark Lipof is now the Co-Owner and Founding Director of Camp Micah. \nMark graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and earned a High School teacher certification. He then graduated from the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work with an MSW and is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. \nMark’s experience with youth is extensive and includes evaluation and counseling of at-risk youth and residential camp experience at most administrative levels. From 1990 – 2005\, Mark held many positions at Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brookline\, MA\, including Synagogue Administrator\, Counselor\, and Youth Director. In 1995\, he became the founding Director of the Ansin Religious School of Ohabei Shalom. SUMMARY:Resource Community Series: Operationalizing DEI at Your Camp
DESCRIPTION:Has your camp been talking about or been doing preliminary work around belonging\, diversity\, inclusion (and similar concepts that may go by a variety of terms)?\nAre you ready to take this work to the next level? If so\, join ACA\, New England and OAAARS for a year-long exploration into how to more deeply operationalize DEIB at your camp. This Resource Community will be a cohort model with monthly meetings from October to May. \nSimone Gamble and their colleagues from OAAARS will ask you to identify a specific project to work on and using accountable structure and intersectional lens\, they will guide you through a year of reflection and action. \nThis series is designed to be an interactive\, live\, discussion-based opportunity for you to grow your camp’s skills in this area while being guided by strong facilitators. John started camp work as a summer counselor in 1982 and has worked at camps in North Carolina\, Kentucky\, Utah\, California and Pennsylvania. John’s wife\, Tricia was raised in Concord\, NH and they both love calling the Granite State home. When not focusing on Camp he loves to share the inner workings of Coniston’s success\, in hopes of making camping programs across the nation more successful and impactful for youth. John has become integrated in the local community through participation as a Ballot Clerk and a member of the Planning Board– but is particularly known for his passion of chatting at the local coffee shop during the winter mornings.

DESCRIPTION:Resource Community Series:\nMESH Systems and Supports at Camp (200-Level)\nHave you/your camp been setting up mental\, emotional\, and social health (MESH) supports for your staff and campers or are you ready to take the next steps to do so? This series of monthly facilitated discussions (October to May) is designed to give camp leaders with decision-making responsibilities the space and support to dive deep into examining what your camp is already doing\, identifying gaps\, and setting intentions for future actions. For example: \n\nDo you have staff dedicated to social/emotional support of campers/staff and if so\, what is their role and how is it going? If not\, what would it take to get you there?\nWhat resources are in place in case of a mental health emergency or a crisis requiring urgent emotional/mental health support for your staff/campers?\nWhat kind of MESH training does/should your leadership staff get each year? Counselors?\nHave your staff expressed the need for more breaks or time off? What actions can you take?\nHow are your health forms/intake systems providing you with the information you need to best support campers and staff (or what needs to change)?\nWhat innovative things do you want to try and how can colleagues help you workshop ideas?\n\nNick Teich\, PhD\, LCSW\, founder and former CEO of Harbor Camps and owner of Fairwinds Consulting\, LLC\, will moderate the group. Emily is a regular presenter at conferences and is active in ACA\, New England\, where she is a Lead Visitor\, conference committee member\, and member of the Faculty for the New Camp Directors Workshop. Emily is on the Board of Directors for NHCamps and is a contributor to Camping Magazine\, ParentingNH\, the Project Real Job Blog\, and the Day Camp Pod. She holds a BS in Health Psychology and an MS in Camp Administration and Leadership. She is also an education advocate for youth with special needs and a certified Adult Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Emily’s sense of humor and genuine warm connection to individuals comes through in her facilitation style. Fair warning: she is an avid collector of terribly awesome puns.
