The Connecticut Camping Association held it’s Annual Meeting and Dinner on December 7th at Winding Trails. At the dinner a new board slate for 2017 was elected. CCA is happy to welcome Ray Bloom, Jillian McCarthy, and Ray Zetye to the board of directors. Also on this night we awarded our annual Bernie Moore Scholarship to Abby Wollenberg. The raffle to benefit the scholarship also was very popular again this year with some great prizes and raised over $600 to help support the scholarship. We thank all those that attended the dinner and wish everyone in New England a Happy Holidays!
The Maine Summer Camps’ Education Committee has put together an outstanding Winter Workshop featuring Bob Ditter. The workshop takes place at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland on January 24th starting at 9:00 am. The registration fee for non-MSC camps is $50 and includes lunch and entrance into the afternoon MSC Business Networking Extravaganza event. We anticipate there will be around 65 MSC business member exhibitors. Due to the popularity of this workshop, there will be a very limited number of spaces available for non-MSC camps. If interested contact Ron Hall at firstname.lastname@example.org (SOON)! Below is a brief overview on Bob’s planned presentation.
Balancing Life on the “High Wire” of Camp
Dealing with Adolescent and Staff Stress & Anxiety
A survey conducted with 200 camps by the Healthy Camps Committee of the American Camp Association in the summer of 2015 revealed the number one concern of camp owners and directors regarding staff was anxiety and depression. In addition, Maine Camp Directors have shared their concerns about managing increasing cases of adolescent depression and anxiety at Camp.
Join Bob Ditter in a fascinating new training which will guide us through the latest insights into mental health, and provide us with the tools we need to support our staff and adolescent campers. Bob will base his remarks on cutting edge research in brain science and human behavior. You may even learn something about your own stress and anxiety!
