Right before the end of 2015 and just after, there was quite a bit of legislative good news on a national level! Because there are several issues to follow and because new laws were signed during the busy December holiday season, we’re highlighting news of two (Transportation & Expanded Learning Time) and encouraging you to visit the News page of the national ACA’s website.

Transportation – Transportation – Camps are now exempt from certain commercial transportation regulations when using 9-15 passenger vans. Thank you to Susan Yoder and ACA for their work on this issue. We’re proud of New England’s legislative influence on this, led by our president Steve Sudduth as well as Ron Hall and Jack Erler from Maine Summer Camps.
Expanded Learning Time – The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a bipartisan bill to replace and revise No Child Left Behind and to overhaul K-12 education policy. This law recognizes the critical role out-of-school time programs play in the year-round education of the whole child; its provisions include grant and partnership opportunities for camps.

Several ACA Members from New England will receive awards at the National ACA Conference February 9-12
