Lower Camp Director - Fessenden Day Camp

 

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervisor of counselors in your division.
  • Teach staff their responsibilities in your division and provide them regular support and training.
  • Uphold all policies and philosophies of the Fessenden Day Camp.
  • Develop and implement strategies to help campers and counselors. 
  • Assure appropriate staffing of groups.
  • Set a good example for staff and campers in all areas, including but not limited to accountability, fairness, organization, cleanliness, punctuality, following the rules, and sportsmanship.
  • Coordinate and assist in leading camp-wide initiatives and events with director team.
  • Coordinate with CIT director to schedule and teach CITs to assist with groups and teach counselors how to appropriately work with and educate assigned CITs. 
  • Conduct formal evaluations of staff in assigned division mid-season and the end of the season. 
  • Regularly conduct informal evaluations of staff in assigned division.
  • Discuss with director any concerns about staff and evaluate future employment.
  • Assist in many different responsibilities to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and campers.
  • Available 8:45am-4:30pm, Monday – Friday and Special Event times for the entire camp season.
  • Assist in planning and training for staff training sessions including developing and leading Lower Camp staff training before and during camp season.
  • Regularly communicate and work with groups and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. 
  • Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Proactively communicate with parents about successes and concerns regarding their child.

Physical Demands:

  • Some high activity which may include running, dancing, swimming and jumping. 
  • Occasional lifting, bending, and climbing stairs
  • Frequent talking, listening, walking, sitting, and standing
  • Must possess the visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp activity.

  • Experience as an administrator in a camp or supervisory position working with children of various ages, specializing in working with children 7 years old and under.

  • Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage staff and campers in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphere. 
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Possess excellent character, integrity, adaptability, patience, self-control, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor. 
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Pass a MA State run background check including a CORI and SORI.
