Overview
The Camp Director is responsible for planning and running a safe, fun and high quality program for all campers. The Camp Director is responsible for growing camp enrollment and revenue while managing costs within budget. The Director is responsible for marketing, hiring all seasonal camp staff, developing and managing the Camp programs, adhering to the budget and ensuring that all Camp operations comply with all state and board of health regulations.
**This is a ten month position (December through September) reporting to the school’s CFO and the Head of School.

Requirements

Job Essential Functions Pre & Post Camp Season:

  • Work with the school’s CFO to come up with the annual marketing plan, annual camp budget, hiring plan, and camp program development goals and execute 
  • Perform all registration related functions including customer phone calls, billing, payment plans, refunds and collections, through the school’s Campwise software with the help of part time Assistant Camp Director and seasonal staff 
  • Manage all communication, including emails to new campers (for recruitment, marketing or survey and social media) 
  • Hire and train all camp staff and submit all HR-related paperwork to the Business Office 
  • Handle all Board of Health and Dept. of Public Health related matters regarding the Camp and ensure regulatory compliance regarding all Camp related matters 
  • Manage according to the Camp budget, maintain proper documentation for all purchases and expenses for the Camp and submit all financial records to the Business Office in a timely manner 
  • Develop and maintain records essential for control, evaluation and reporting 
  • Manage and execute camper and staff recruitment by attending camp fairs and community events 
  • Recruit campers and work on achieving Camp enrollment and revenue goals 
  • Support the Business Office with supplying all necessary information and documents needed for financial reporting of the Camp activities and the school’s annual audit 
  • Manage LCA Swim and Tennis Club activities 


Camp Season:

  • Assume responsibility for camp program & scheduling 
  • Assume full responsibility of summer camp operations 
  • Assume full responsibility of summer camp staff management 
  • Evaluate regularly the effectiveness of all programs and make necessary adjustments 
  • Model LCA values to all campers and staff 
  • Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors and the general public at all times 
  • Be prepared to respond appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring First Aid and CPR 
  • Work with specialists to develop camper schedules, curriculum and lessons plans 
  • Plan and work with the dining room manager to implement healthy lunch menu for campers 
  • Arrange camp transportation for field trips, etc. 
  • Communicate to camp families in a timely manner to maintain their confidence and trust 
  • Work within budget to plan activities and purchase supplies and submit all financial records to the business office in a timely manner for accurate reporting 
  • Work with the Assistant Camp Director to develop a robust CIT/LIT (Counselor In Training) program to create a pathway for future counselors and staff 
  • Communicate issues and problems as they arise with the CFO and the Head of School 
  • Handle discipline and behavior problems as necessary, in accordance to the Camp policies 
  • Work to ensure a positive experience for all campers 


Staff Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all camp personnel, including interviewing, hiring, conducting background checks, training, supervising, evaluating and terminating (if necessary) of all camp staff 
  • Supervise the Assistant Camp Director/CPO/Swim Instructor 
  • Responsible for collecting, processing (most through the Business Office), and archiving of all necessary employee paperwork 
  • Prepare camp and staff manuals and conduct staff training and orientation 
  • Oversee scheduling of staff 
  • Ensure final performance evaluations are conducted on all staff at the end of the season 


Facility Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the facility and the grounds are clean, maintained and safe during camp season 
  • Work with LCA facility manager to schedule and execute all Camp and Swim & Tennis Club related opening/closing and maintenance activities 
  • Work with LCA facility manager to ensure all set-up and break- down in classrooms and gym happen smoothly for pre-camp to camp to post-camp seasons •
  • Ensure that camp supplies are completely inventoried and stored away properly at the end of the season

Experience

Qualifications

  • B.S. or equivalent 
  • Prior camp supervisory role for at least 5-7 years plus at least 3 years of experience as a camp director of $500,000+ in camp revenue 
  • Proven track record to recruit and retain excellent camp counselors and staff 
  • Ability to supervise a team of ~70 seasonal staff 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents and resolve any concerns they have in a timely manner 
  • Ability to relate well: Approximately 300 campers each week, with ages ranging from entering kindergarten to entering 8th grade in the fall -- Must be able to step in to address any conflicts among campers that counselors escalate 
  • Current First Aid and Adult and Child CPR certifications 
  • Lifeguard/WSI Certification a plus. 
  • Mandatory background checks, including fingerprinting thru SAFIS (Statewide Applicant Fingerprint Identification Services)
