Job Description

The JMG Leader will plan, direct, and implement (2,3 or 4 days) backpacking and canoe trips. Teaching outdoor skills Will teach in Outdoor Skills/Nature/Hiking areas when not working with trips. Work in conjunction with Program Director and Waterfront Directors to design/prepare campers for trips. Unit Leader job functions include: helping campers understand/live Girl Scout Promise & Law; planning, carrying out and evaluating activities; and ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of campers. Junior Maine Guide Leader will teach or assist in teaching the 21 outdoor skills need for test camp. Will prepare the camper for test camp and assist tester at JMG test camp. Spend a wonderful summer at a Girl Scouts of Maine Camp Natarswi! Natarswi has 26-30 staff and up to 50-80 weekly girls who attend one (1) week to four (4) week sessions during our 5 week season.

Natarswi is a rustic camp we are located in Northern Maine at the south entrance of Baxter State Park. We serve Girl Scouts ages 7-17 building girls of courage, confidence, and character while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Staff and camper spend days taking part in many different activities: sailing, boating, canoeing, paddleboarding, swimming, hiking, camping, archery, rock climbing, arts, nature, songs, games, campfires, and traditional camp activities. The camp season begins in the middle of June and goes to the end of August.

The camp season includes a week of certification courses (if needed), an extensive staff training week, 5 weeks of resident camp and 3 weeks of family and troop camping. The employment period varies between 7 and 10 weeks. Staff members live 2 to 4 in a platform tent with a wood bottom in a unit with the girl’s tents surrounding them.

Camp staff will assist in the day-to-day activities in their unit or program areas, and help maintain the health and safety of all campers. They should be enthusiastic, caring adults who are passionate about working with girls.
