Job Description

  • To demonstrate, and to conduct “hands-on” workshops during staff training week including how to execute equitable auditions, organize and direct camper productions, how to engage campers in drama, how to operate and maintain theater lights and sound system
  • To initiate pre-camp planning prior to arriving at camp, i.e., select productions and order perusals if necessary
  • To supervise, coordinate and direct the drama staff, and unit plays including auditions, rehearsals; construction of stage sets, lighting, costuming, and make-up
  • To evaluate the drama staff, including
  • To open, clean, organize and close drama department including: order drama supplies, and equipment with the Program Director’s approval; maintain inventory, and submit inventory of remaining materials at the end of the season; including scripts, musical scores, reusable sets, props, etc., maintain the equipment in working order, report to Program Director when equipment requires repair
  • To attend weekly department meetings
  • To prepare end of season report to use as planning document for the next season
  • To attend evening activities to assist with supervision
  • To chaperone camp trips, when called upon
  • To take office and Super OD on a rotating basis
  • Other administrative duties as required by the Director or Program Director

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in education, theater education, Acting, Musical Theater, Stage/Production Management, or Theater Studies preferred
  • 3+ years experience leading, directing, and organizing a drama program preferably at a residential camp or with children’s theater; proven acting and directing skills
  • Proven experiences and skills to develop, prepare, and organize camp drama program and performances for children ages 8 to 15 including time management of production schedule.
