Job Description

The Head Counselor at Camp Bauercrest is responsible for camp life, managing the staff of all ages to execute the best program possible. The Head Counselor is a key role running the day-to-day operation of Bauercrest by addressing staff and camper issues and being as proactive as possible to provide support, discipline, and enjoyment for all of Bauercrest.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with Administrative team to address staff, camper, and parent issues
  • Being the lead resource for staff and campers on conflicts, issues, or concerns to ensure positive group dynamics in each bunk
  • Coach, lead, and evaluate staff to develop with their abilities as counselors, leaders, and role models
  • Be present and available for staff and campers to build relationships and cultivate a positive environment
  • Ensuring that Parent Communication for First Year Campers and Veteran Campers is done properly and on time, including weekly letters, camper reports, and parent phone calls
  • Supervise group staff and campers to make sure they are at their daily assignments and carrying out their responsibilities, including attendance to all meals, services, and events 
  • Bunk participation in clean up, activities, and events 
  • Supplying regular feedback to staff for continued development and high standards for the group 
  • Report any issues, developments, or happenings in the group with proper documentation and communication to Head Counselor.
  • Other duties as necessary 

 Qualifications:

  • 22+ years old preferred 
  • Bachelors Degree preferred with a focus on youth development 
  • 3 or more years of experience in residential camping or other relevant field
  • Proven track record of responsibility and meeting goals
  • Strong communication and customer service skills with parents 
  • Experience in mentoring young staff 
  • Ability to manage staff and holding them responsible to mutual goals
  • Ability to work independently
  • Creative, fun, personable, and has sense of humor 
  • Firm understanding of the Camper Priority first and the need to hold peers to higher standard
  • Available from June 19th to August 18th and willingness to live on camp for the duration of employment
