Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW: Responsible for the planning and implementation of Challenge Course activities to all partner campers throughout the summer. Responsible for the safety of all campers and staff on site during program time. Responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of the Challenge Course areas.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Facilitate high and low challenge course activities with all of Hale’s on-site camps
• Confidently manage groups of varying backgrounds and energy levels on the challenge course
• Ensure safety of all participants by preventing and responding to emergencies
• Maintain general upkeep and safety of all Challenge Couse areas
• Participate in in-service training throughout the summer
• Complete additional duties assigned by supervisor

DETAILED RESPONISIBILITES:

  1. Facilitate high and low challenge course activities with all of Hale’s on-site camps
    a. Participate in the full five-day training on facilitation techniques, teambuilding activities, and procedures for all low and high elements at Hale
    b. Plan and execute age and level-appropriate Challenge Course activities for campers ages 9-12, ensuring a progression of difficulty throughout the summer adapted to specific group needs
    c. Document all sessions conducted, including activities conducted, elements climbed, and evaluations of group progress 
  2. Confidently manage groups of varying backgrounds and energy levels on the challenge course
    a. Evaluate group mindset, abilities, and needs at the start of each Challenge Course session and adapt activities accordingly
    b. Use group management techniques to engage campers and ensure a safe learning environment for all participants
    c. Communicate with Partner Camp staff to ensure comprehensive understanding of group-specific challenges and needs 
  3. Ensure safety of all participants by preventing and responding to emergencies
    a. Review all safety guidelines and expectations with participants at the start of all Challenge Course sessions
    b. Be alert and aware of participants’ activities at all times on the Challenge Course
    c. Engage camp staff to assist with supervision of participants and enforcement of safety expectations
    d. Calmly and efficiently manage unsafe situations appropriate to training level, and quickly contact the Challenge Course Director in case of higher-risk emergencies
    e. Complete and submit incident reports to the Challenge Course Director in a timely manner 
  4. Maintain general upkeep and safety of all Challenge Couse areas
    a. Ensure that all areas around Challenge Course elements are clean and free from hazards before and after each session
    b. Ensure that all Challenge Course elements are thoroughly taken down and all equipment is returned to appropriate storage spaces at the end of each day
    c. Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage spaces
    d. Document and communicate safety hazards to Challenge Course Director in a timely manner 
  5. Participate in in-service training throughout the summer
    a. Meet with the Summer Challenge Course Director and facilitator team on a regular basis to ensure regular communication and coordination of Challenge Course operations
    b. Fully participate in all refreshers and trainings scheduled by Hale leadership regarding program quality, daily operations, and emergency procedures 
  6. Complete additional duties assigned by supervisor 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Able to observe, listen to, evaluate and act upon safety concerns related to a large Challenge Course operation
• Able to easily access all areas of Hale Reservation by foot
• Able to appropriately address camper and staff issues in person and on the phone
• Able to physically assist with facility upkeep in all Challenge Course areas

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum age: 18 years or older
• Ability to professionally represent Hale in person
• Flexible, dependable, friendly, cooperative member of the team
• At least 40 hours of training in low and high ropes elements
