Job Description

Current RN License required.

Operate and live in the Camp Infirmary and Nurse Cabin as the Camp Nurse for a small summer camp (under 50 total residents on the island).

Campers are aged 12 to 18 and attend the entire summer session on Dyer Island.

Positions include room, board, and some travel assistance.

Six days per week preferred. One day off a week (Sunday) is the traditional expectation.

Coverage required from July 7th to August 11th.

Be able to practice in the State of Maine.
Ability to manage health forms and paperwork.
Enjoy working with children is a must. Pediatric or camp experience, a plus.
Hard-working, enthusiastic and committed to the safety and well-being of campers.
Adaptable and comfortable living in a camp setting and interacting positively with other camp staff.
Good communicator with campers, staff and parents.
Friendly, happy, with a good sense of humor.
Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor healthcare, maintain records, implement a health plan.
Ability to make decisions and take initiative.


Prior nursing experience.
School or camp setting experience preferred.
Experience working as the sole nurse at a facility.
Wilderness, general outdoor living experience or experience working in remote/rustic locations.

Additional Information

1. Pre-Arrival camper health form review 2. Establishing health needs during camper arrival time 3. Overall health and well-being of campers and staff 4. Medication administration (both prescribed and as needed by following the Standing Orders) 5. Illness and injury management 6. Overnight on-call hours 7. Activate urgent care or higher level of care if needed 8. Communication with parents 9. Health care documentation 10. Ensures that the clinic is kept clean (with the help of staff), and stocked with appropriate supplies and medications. 11. Stores medications in the locked medication cabinet in the Infirmary. 12. Follows the State of Maine guidelines for Infirmary operation 13. Prepares and monitors Camp First Aid supplies 14. Attend supervisory staff meetings and other camp meetings and functions when assigned to do so by the Camp Director 15. Attend all meals except when off-site, during time off, or performing other camp duties
