Job Description

The Chef is responsible for all meals served at Camp Claire, Inc. This individual will possess prior knowledge and experience in the coordination and execution of a service kitchen to feed between 100-170 people. Experience in ordering supplies, budgeting, supervision of kitchen staff and excellent cooking skills are required.

Duration: June-August (9 weeks)

Reports to: The Director

Responsibilities:
Chef works with food vendors to order all food and supplies. This individual prepares a menu for the camp season, coordinating with camp programs, and meeting state and ACA health guidelines. The Chef also works with the nurse to address food allergies. Camp Claire also offers vegan and vegetarian options. The Chef prepares all camp meals, and cleans up afterward. The Chef also inventories all kitchen items and replaces broken or essential equipment. This individual supervises 2-3 kitchen assistants and delegates the workload. Finally, the cook is responsible for following the proper procedures as outlined by the state and ACA guidelines. The Chef works closely with the program director, director and kitchen staff.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to prepare three meals and a snack each day, this includes getting up before campers and staff 
  • Must be able to live in a small community environment 
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to communicate with staff, parents and campers in a professional manner. This includes written, as well as, verbal communication 
  • Must be able to live 50 pounts
  • Must be able to adhere to strict kitchen guidelines mandated by the state and ACA

Experience

Qualifications:

  • Proper State certification in food preparation: QFO 
  • Two - Four years of experience as an assistant chef in a service kitchen, other experience may be considered 
  • Experience cooking for 50+ people 
  • Experience with inventory management 
  • Ability to supervise 2-3 kitchen staff members 
  • Good communication skills
