Job Description

The Camp & Residency Director plans, develops, promotes, and manages Circus Smirkus’s Summer Camp and School Residency programs for children between the ages of 6 and 18. Previously conducted in a variety of rented facilities, the Summer Camp will commence operations in June 2015 on a new purpose­built residential campus in Greensboro, Vermont, owned and operated by Circus Smirkus.

A full­time, year­round employee of Circus Smirkus, the Director is responsible for the camp’s and the residency program’s:
• artistic direction
• budgeting and financial management
• staff recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision
• communications and marketing
• facility management
• administrative operations In carrying out these responsibilities, the Camp & Residency Director collaborates with other full­time, year­round employees of Circus Smirkus as necessary, including the Marketing Director, the Director of External Relations, the Business Manager, and the Executive Director, as well as with seasonal employees.

Requirements

Applicants please have:
• a bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, performing arts, or communications
• a minimum of 3 years’ program management experience in an educational, cultural, or arts organization
• a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a senior manager in a residential camp setting, including responsibility for hiring and managing staff
• availability for occasional travel

Experience

Applicants please have:
• experience developing and managing budgets to targets
• a demonstrated love of the circus, with circus experience highly desirable
• knowledge of American Camping Association standards and regulations affecting camps
• demonstrated ability to relate well to people of all ages, from young children to grandparents
• excellent interpersonal and client service skills
• excellent oral and written communication skills
• excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing tasks
