Boating/General Counselor - Camp Sloane YMCA

 

Job Description

We are looking for counselors with sailing, kayaking, canoeing and/or rowing experience. In the mornings these staff members will organize and lead activities down at our waterfront for campers, prepare lesson plans and be responsible for making sure that each camper sets goals, makes new friends, tries something and has fun.

In the afternoon, counselors live with and are responsible for the supervision of 5-7 campers in their platform tent. Staff will direct campers in daily tent and village activities including clean-up, rest hour, tent time, meals and fun evening programs.

Location: Lakeville, CT

Type of Position: Specialized Activity Leader

Time Frame: Seasonal

Salary: $25/day for 66-day contract, negotiable DOE

Requirements

At least 18 years of age, high school graduate or GED and completed at least first year of higher learning or on a gap year.

Willing and able to pass a lifeguard certification and boat driving certification course.

Lift as much as 25lbs

Function at all times as a role model for campers and other staff members

Attend and participate in the staff training prior to the first camp session

Experience

Significant child care or camp experience or training and ability to teach and supervise campers

Have experience teaching one or more of the following activities: Rowing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing

Willing to commit to a 10-week contract which includes lifeguard certification, boat driving certification and staff training.
