Job Description

UNITED CAMPS, CONFERENCES AND RETREATS has an upcoming position available at the Craigville Retreat Center, in Craigville, MA  

Under the direction of the Site Director, the Associate Site Director, Grounds shall be responsible for interpreting UCCR’s mission through maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment.

Areas of Responsibility The Associate Site Director, Grounds shall have competence in and delegated responsibility for the following as assigned by the Site Director:

Maintenance 

  • Plan, maintain and direct all maintenance aspects in compliance with health and safety codes and other regulations as well as UCCR programs and standards  
  • Communicate with site director as well as local service providers regarding maintenance services and/or activities  
  • Develop proposals for special maintenance or construction projects at the site Hospitality Services and Program Development  
  • Understand camp and conference program and facility operations  
  • Meet the public and be supportive of and sensitive to diversity of people, cultures and program goals
  • Communicate with groups about their program and site needs Supervision  
  • Assist and support site director in personnel matters related to the maintenance area  
  • Train and supervise maintenance personnel as well as volunteers 
  • Plan activities of maintenance personnel 

Finance and Administration

  • Maintain maintenance budget percent as established in conjunction with Site Director 
  • Maintain accurate equipment and asset inventory records 
  • Maintain staff scheduling within bounds of payroll percent as established in conjunction with site director 
  • Coordinate special projects so that they comply with proposed budgets 

General

  • Communicate both verbally and in writing in a timely, clear and logical manner 
  • Respond effectively and efficiently in a crisis; problem solve under pressure 
  • Land use and environmental stewardship 
  • Represent and interpret the site and UCCR to others as requested 
  • Represent the Site Director as requested 
  • Support other site operations as necessary

Requirements

Essential Functions 

Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
Ability to use equipment and tools, including heavy equipment
Ability to drive UCCR vehicle • Ability to traverse difficult and uneven terrain • Ability to work for short periods in uncomfortable positions • Ability to use or learn to use telephone, computer and office equipment
Ability to use fuel and other maintenance and cleaning solvents and supplies

Experience

Qualifications 

Two years of technical training plus two years combined experience; or five years combined experience in:

  • Building trades 
  • Water systems and waterfront maintenance 
  • Landscaping or forestry 
  • One year experience in customer service 
  • One year demonstrated experience in personnel supervision or one season of maintenance personnel supervision at UCCR

UCCR requires that all employees clear a Department of Justice criminal background check, and clear the sexual offender registry. Driving record will also be checked.
