Job Description

The Assistant Waterfront Director works closely with the Waterfront Director to plan, direct and supervise the camp’s waterfront program in accordance with state and local regulations. The Assistant Waterfront Director will assist with supervision and direction for waterfront staff, trains staff on waterfront procedures and emergency plans, coordinates emergency drills with staff, and supervises the swimming and boating programs. The Assistant Waterfront Director will supervise the waterfront in the absence of the Waterfront Director

Spend a wonderful summer at a Girl Scouts of Maine Camp Pondicherry. Pondicherry has 30-40 staff and 80-120 campers each week, who attend one (1) week to four (4) week sessions during our 5 week season.

Pondicherry is located in western Maine in the foothills of the White Mountains. We serve girls ages 7-17 building girls of courage, confidence, and character while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Staff and campers spend their days taking part in many different activities: canoeing, paddleboarding, swimming, hiking, camping, high and low ropes, archery, arts, nature, songs, games, and campfires. The camp season begins in the middle of June and goes to the middle of August. The camp season includes a week of certification courses (if needed), an extensive staff training week, 5 weeks of resident camp and 2 weeks of family and troop camping. The employment period varies between 6 and 10 weeks.

Staff members live 2 to 4 in a platform tent with a wooden floor and roof in a unit with the girl’s tents surrounding them.

Camp staff will assist in the day-to-day activities in their unit or program areas, and help maintain the health and safety of all campers. They should be enthusiastic, caring adults who are passionate about working with girls.
