Assistant Day Camp Director - Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains

 

Job Description

The Assistant Camp Director assists the Camp Director in the total operation of the day camp. This position may assist in the interviewing, training, and supervision of staff. May oversee the development and implementation of the program and/or manage campers, transportation, and supplies. The Assistant Camp Director works with the Camp Director in the development and implementation of flexible, creative programs as summarized in the Summer Camp Guide which reflect the mission and vision of Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains. The Assistant Camp Director is responsible to the Day Camp Director who provides ongoing training and supervision, and the materials and tools to carry out the delegated responsibilities. The Day Camp program occurs in many locations with varying terrain from flat to hilly. Program often requires movement from one activity area to another, involving some distances. Girls are placed in units by age level and then placed in smaller groups to plan and carry out the program. Each day varies. The program is flexible and must be creative. The position requires the ability to work with children and adults eight hours a day, while maintaining a high level of energy and enthusiasm. The position will begin on January 1 and continue through August 30.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Shares responsibility for training, and supervising staff members. a. Enforces all GSGWM personnel policies and develops procedures pertinent to her camp. b. Assists in providing staff members with tools and materials to perform job through staff training, meetings, and supervision. c. Assists the Camp Director in creating and developing the training schedule for camp staff.

2. Shares responsibility for developing, implementing, and overseeing program. a. Insures that the Girl Scout mission, vision, and program goals are carried out. b. Implements program with a particular focus on self-esteem and valuing differences. c. Implements program to be consistent with expectations of the Girl Scout Leadership program d. Provides program resources to staff to insure a flexible, creative, and memorable program.

3. Shares responsibility for developing and enforcing policies and procedures. a. Develops risk and crisis management plans. b. Communicates immediately with Camp Director or Assistant Director of Outdoor Program in the event of any emergency or crisis.

4. Transportation, camper and staff placement, and communication with parents. a. Oversees the bus transportation and ensures that all children arrive at the correct pick up/drop off location. b. Insures that campers and staff are placed in appropriate units. c. Maintains good communication with parents through parent letters, phone conversations, and open houses. d. Insures that all equipment is well cared for and the site is left in good condition.

5. Assists the Camp director in the promotion of the Outdoor Experience and particular day camp as time allows.

6. Keeps accurate records and completes paper work in a timely manner, including reports, evaluations, camper information, work reviews, and inventories.

7. Performs other duties as assigned by the Day Camp Director.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Essential Skills and Abilities:

• 21 years old or older

• Experience teaching and working with large groups of children

• Experience working with and supervising adults

• Interest in, and knowledge of, Girl Scout Program

• Must participate in all required training

• Acceptance of the Girl Scout Promise and Law and membership in the Girl Scouts of the USA

• Ability to assess and respond immediately and with good judgment in a crisis

• Ability to communicate quickly and efficiently with staff members and campers

• Ability to interview, hire, train, supervise and release staff

• Ability to use good judgment regarding health, safety, and personnel

Experience

Software/Equipment Experience: • General Office Equipment • Microsoft Office Suite

Additional Information

Training-Will have completed the Orientation to Girl Scouting and Girl Scout Leadership Essentials Training and will help plan and carry out staff training in a timely fashion. Work Schedule-Works from home from January 1 until Camp Season begins. Works Monday through Friday during the Camp Season. Works from home after the completion of Camp Season until August 30. Often outdoors over varying terrain as described above. Evening and weekend work commitments.
