Arts & Crafts Counselor - Camp Farley Outdoor Education Center


Job Description


  1. Assist in setting up arts & craft studio during staff training. 
  2. Learn responsibilities in activity area during staff training. 
  3. Learn to use equipment properly. 
  4. Assist in initial and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment for safety. 
  5. Check equipment and notify department head if repairs are needed. 
  6. Conduct daily check of program area for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. 
  7. Assist with lesson plans that will foster participants' appreciation for the arts.
  8. Assist in planning activities based on campers' skills, age, and abilities.
  9. Assist in packing all materials and supplies at the end of season. 
  10. These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
  11. Learn the likes/dislikes of each participant 
  12. Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in the group. 
  13. Develop opportunities for interaction between campers and staff 
  14. Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during camp. 
  15. Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems. 
  16. Help each participant meet the goals established by the camp for camper development. 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: To carry out camp programs

  1. Guide cabin group and individuals in participating successfully in all aspects of activities. 
  2. Carry out established roles for supervising camper health. 
  3. Carry out established rules in enforcing camp safety regulations. 
  4. Supervise all aspects of camper's day including morning reveille, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest hour, evening activities, getting ready for bed, and after-hours duty as assigned. 
  5. Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuation, etc. 
  6. Teach or lead activities as assigned. 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: To fulfill other staff administrative roles.

  1. Actively participate in staff training meetings. 
  2. Set a good example for campers including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners. 
  3. Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages, and use of drugs. 
  4. Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities. 
  5. Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy. 
  6. Maintain good public relations with campers' parents. 
  7. In the event of unexpected staff shortages (due to illness, dismissal, etc.), be willing and flexible to help with supervision of cabin groups. 
  8. These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required. 


  • Able to accompany campers to main program areas 
  • lead small and large group activities 
  • supervise campers participation in structured and unstructured activities 
  • demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served
  • interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations
  • appropriately model behavior and use positive behavior-management techniques – enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self control. 
  • Able to assist in emergency (fire, injury, etc.); and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

Time Frame: Seasonal

Salary: Very Competitive Salary, housing, and meals. Staff enjoy about 24 hours off each week - at least an hour off during each day, 3 nights off during the week, and from Friday at 8:30 to Sunday at noon off. Camp does not operate during weekends and staff are free to leave, or are welcome to stay and enjoy camp’s private staff beach, staff lounge with flat screen TV and wireless, staff laundry facilities, staff kitchenette, bicycles, and other staff amenities. Food is provided on weekends.


  • 18 years old or a high school graduate 
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors 
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision 
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability 
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self control 
  • Physically able to lift moderately heavy loads and perform duties 
  • The ability to carry out activities with your assigned program area

Dates of Employment are June 23th to August 25th (9 weeks) Camp Farley offers an 8 week, co-ed summer camp. For information regarding the program, or to fill out an application, visit: The population of campers can generally be described as reflective of the nature and diversity of the local community on Cape Cod. The overnight camp program (Sun. afternoon to Friday evening) accommodates about 100 children between the ages 8 to 15, and a day camp program accommodates about 70 children between the ages of 6 to 12. Living and working at a children’s camp is not for everyone, but if you love kids, people, and fun, then you will hardly find a better place to spend your summer than Camp Farley.
