Give the Gift of Camp & Change a Life this Holiday Season
With both Thanksgiving and Hanukkah happening this week, we are launching full speed ahead into the holiday season. For many people, Black Friday marks the official start to the holiday shopping frenzy. But there are numerous other ways to give a truly life-changing gift, without having to fight the crowds and wait in line, give the gift of camp!
ACA New England sees summer camp as a sustained experience which provides a creative, recreational, and educational group living opportunity in the out-of-doors. Trained leaders and a natural setting both contribute to each camper’s mental, physical, social, and spiritual growth. There has been significant research done proving that children gain interpersonal growth, character development, leadership skills and social skills when given the chance to attend summer camp. The chance to connect with nature-and disconnect with technology-gives children the rare opportunity to try new things in a supportive environment, live in a safe community, work as a team, challenge themselves to move beyond their comfort zones and make lifelong connections with old and new friends. On top of all that, camp is a fun filled experience that a child will never forget!
So instead of buying something this holiday season—give the gift of camp! It's a gift that will never break, need new batteries or wear out over time. You can donate to our Campership Fund, which will help children in need attend summer camps in New England during the Summer of 2014. Even the smallest amount can make the biggest difference! This thank you note was written by one of the 150 campers who attended camp last summer thanks to the Campership Fund.
You can also utilize our Find-A-Camp tool to discover the best fit camp for a child in your life! Registration is already open for many camps in New England and there are various resources on our website to help you choose the best camp for your child's needs and interests. After finding a camp, look through this blog and website for ways to prepare for camp.
