Pre-Camp Certification Courses Offered by Camps

Several camps host counselors and staff from all over, typically during May and June, to learn life-saving skills like CPR and first aid or how to teach a variety of activities like kayaking, riding, archery, or tennis. Typically, a camp will send counselors it has hired to a certification school in order to fill a specific need. Opportunities for 2012

• Brooks School (North Andover, MA) A.R.C Aquatic School offers water safety instructor training, lifeguard certification and recertification, and CPR for the professional rescuer recertification.  Their school runs from June 4th to June 15th.
• Cape Cod Sea Camps (Brewster, MA) offers clinics in swimming, sailing, archery, riflery, and windsurfing, as well as American Red Cross training in CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety.  Their 2012 Certification School runs from June 13 to June 24.
• Camp Cedar (Casco, ME) offers clinics in mid-June: a Maine Trip Leaders' Course on June 12th and an Archery Clinic on June 15th.
• Girl Scouts of Maine (Bridgton, ME @ Camp Pondicherry) offers trainings in lifeguarding, water safety, small craft safety and basic water rescue, archery, Leave No Trace, challenge course, wilderness first aid, CPR, and more.  Their trainings run from June 16-30.
• Hulbert Outdoor Center (Fairlee, VT) offers courses year-round, but many of them take place in April and May.  They offer training in things like Wilderness First Responder, CPR, first aid, and canoe instruction.
• Massachusetts Boat and Recreation Vehicle Safety Bureau offers boating safety courses from February through June.
• Camp Taconic (Hinsdale, MA) offers instruction/certification in water safety instruction, lifeguarding, archery, and waterskiing. Their school runs from June 4 to June 15.
• William Lawrence Camp (Center Tuftonboro, NH) offers instruction/certification in CPR, water safety instruction, lifeguarding, and riflery.  Staff Certification Week runs from June 7-15.
• Winona Camps (Bridgton, ME) offers instruction/certification in CPR, first aid, powerboating, riflery, sailing, smallcraft, trip leading, waterfront safety, and Wilderness First Aid.  Training clinics run between June 5-22.
• Wyonegonic Camps (Denmark, ME) offers instruction/certification in archery, canoeing, Leave No Trace, first aid, outdoor living skills, tennis, waterfront safety, waterfront lifeguarding, and windsurfing. Training clinics are held between June 4-18.
• YMCA Camp of Maine (Winthrop, ME) offers instruction/certification in lifeguard training, swim lesson instructing, lifeguard instructing, wilderness first aid, and small craft safety.  Training clinics are held between June 2 and June 16.
