2013 Camp Champions Celebration
The evening of 11/22/13 found a sold-out crowd of nearly 350 gathered in Fenway Park’s State Street Pavilion to celebrate the true spirit of summer camp, to raise funds to provide camperships for children in need, and to see Eliza Dushku accept the Camp Champions Award. ACA New England Board President, Nat Saltonstall (Beaver Summer Programs, Chestnut Hill, MA) joined Camp Champions Celebration Co-Chairs Jeff Hacker (Camp Cedar, Casco Maine), Dan Isdaner (Camp Mataponi, Naples, ME) and Jason Silberman (Smithfield, ME) to present the award in recognition and appreciation of Eliza’s efforts to provide the life-changing gift of summer camp through the Girls Program at Camp Hale in Sandwich, NH. The ACA Accredited Camp Hale is a program of United South End Settlements. “It was hard work, but it was good work,” Dushku said of her efforts to raise funds and to champion changes that would establish a girls program. “I’m working with my family, and I’m working with people I’ve known and loved, and all these incredible little girls. So it’s hard to call it work; it’s really a passion.”
Rhett Lewis, 7News Sports Reporter hosted the Third Camp Champions Celebration. Bette Bussel, Executive Director of ACA New England set the stage for the award presentation with a tribute to Eliza’s work at camp. “Working with young people at camp is not as easy as it looks. It requires education and training. It requires a respect for and love of children. It requires a lot of energy and effort. It involves very long days. And every second is well worth it when you see campers grow and develop right before your very eyes. Eliza, you are the real deal…and it was obvious that you rocked it at camp last summer!” Click here to view the video that was shown to highlight the great work Eliza did at Camp Hale!
Exciting Raffle items and Silent and Live Auction offerings translated into great fundraising success. Additional highlights of the evening included tours of Fenway Park, photo opportunities with two World Series Trophies and Wally.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of so many sponsors, donors, auction donors, guests and volunteers, a record number of children in need—more than 180—will have the chance to experience summer camp in Summer 2014.
